The Pastor and His Congregation

1. His Rejoicing in them. A. Every time Paul thinks of the Philippians, he is thankful to God for them and rejoices in them. B. He rejoices in their spiritual friendship, and in their fellowship in the gospel.
2. His Confidence for them. A. This is not a confidence in them, but in God for them and their future. B. This doctrine of the preservation and perseverance of the saints produces assurance and confidence.
3. His Praying in their behalf. A. A Pastor's petitionary prayers for the congregation are an important part of his work. B. The petitions are for the needs of the congregation, and for fruit on the ministry of the gospel.
