This historical article traces the origins of teacher training in Protestant Reformed schools, examining Herman Hoeksema's 1920 promotion of a "normal school" for preparing Christian educators within the CRC before the Common Grace Controversy. Dykstra demonstrates that institutional teacher training has deep historical roots in Reformed education, establishing that Hoeksema understood qualified Christian teachers as essential to the vitality of covenant schools.
