The hope of the coming Messiah lived in the soul of every faithful son of Abraham. Already in the Garden of Eden, God had promised, "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head and thou shalt bruise his heel" (Gen. 3:15).
