History The Augsburg Confession was one of the earliest confessions of the Reformation. It was written in 1530, in response to a request from Emperor Charles V of the Holy Roman Empire to the Lutherans asking them to explain their reli- gious convictions at a church meet- ing (“diet”) to be held in Augsburg, Germany.
