MORE ON GOVERNMENT AND THE SCHOOLS The issue of the relation between the government and private and parochial schools continues to be a vexing one. One of the problems involves the law which requires compulsory education until age 16. This problem is really limited for the most part to the Amish who, generally, refuse to send their children to school beyond the eighth grade.
