The Person of Jeremiah, the Prophet

Jeremiah was "the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anahoth, in the land of Benjamin." Anahoth was a city that belonged to the priests. It was situated approximately three miles north-east from Jerusalem. It is not probable, as some have thought, that Jeremiah's father was the same as Hilkiah the high priest in the time of Josiah -- the king that found the lost book of the law.
