In the verses 1-19 Paul has clearly shown that all speaking "with tongues" means absolutely nothing toward the edification of the church when divorced from "prophesying," that is, from the clearly enunciated Word of God, spoken in understandable prose in the church. Such is the case when the "gift" of speaking with tongues is bonafide in the church. Then it is a gift which the Holy Spirit works in the several members in the church as He wills.
