The Centennial of the Doleantie (1)
This year marks the one hundredth anniversary of theDoleantie, or the birth of the Dolerende Kerken in the Netherlands. "What is that?" you probably ask. The term Dolerende comes from the Latin verb doleo, -ere, which means "to grieve, to mourn." Hence, theDolerende Kerken were the "Grieving (or: Aggrieved) Churches." And the term Doleantie, which can hardly be translated by one term in English, refers to the act and the movement which led to the establishment of these "Grieving Churches"...
