Rev. Gise Van Baren presents a clear Reformed exposition of the doctrine of election, defining it as God's eternal, sovereign, gracious decree to choose specific individuals to salvation. The pamphlet defends this doctrine against ignorance and misunderstanding by examining biblical texts and clarifying that election encompasses both the corporate church as the body of Christ and individual members chosen by God's sovereign will.

Election as a doctrine of the church is often either little understood, or emphatically contradicted. There is either ignorance of this truth, or a deliberate misunderstanding of it.
