While standing in a McDonald’s restaurant recently, waiting for a hamburger, I noticed that they had several of what I had ordered setting out in plain sight.  The girl behind the counter said they couldn’t be served; they had to throw away anything that had been there for more than 10 or 15 minutes.  “In one day”, she told me, “They will throw away maybe a dozen to fifteen”.  I couldn’t believe it.  This was a small resort community in Upper Michigan.  What might the number be in a large city...
