Come, Ye Children has been a favorite of Reformed children for decades. A Christian school teacher and gifted storyteller, the author tells 198 Bible stories from Genesis to Acts in language easily understood by young children. Each story is true to scripture and includes a thought to remember and an illustrative drawing.

This Bible storybook includes no pictures of Christ.

What others are saying about this book:

"All Christian homes, schools, and church libraries should definitely add this to their holdings." —Christian Observer

"Each story is scripturally sound and written from a Reformed perspective, with the covenant theme woven throughout." —The Outlook

"I enjoyed reading this book for a couple of reasons. First, Mrs. Hoeksema took the time and effort to explain things so that even very little children would be able to understand it. For example: In the creation stories she gave examples of things such as in the third chapter when she is talking about the sun being a light holder like our lamps. She also asked questions in the beginning of the chapters that were about the chapters. Secondly, Mrs. Hoeksema put a 'Remember' after each story to remind little children of certain important things. Mr. Jeff Steenholdt did a very fine job of illustrating Mrs. Hoeksema’s book. I recommend this book to young readers and listeners." - Amy Lotterman

Gertrude Hoeksema was a housewife, mother, and veteran Christian schoolteacher. The author was born in a manse in the little known village of Sibley, Iowa, and moved to Michigan before she started school. She had her schooling in the Grand Rapids Christian School system and in Calvin College. A few years of teaching in Grand Rapids area Christian schools were followed by marriage and life in the parsonages of Doon, Iowa, and South Holland, Illinois, with her pastor-husband, during which time the family was enriched by four children. Back in Grand Rapids after her husband was appointed professor in the Protestant Reformed Seminary from which he graduated, the author completed her education, and, as her family grew up, she went back to teaching in elementary grades at the Adams Street Protestant Reformed Christian School. Her academic interests, in addition to primary education, were English and music. For years she dabbled in poetry and wrote short stories and articles. Her first major work was a biography of her father-in-law, the Rev. Herman Hoeksema, titled Therefore Have I Spoken.
