1.Introduction. The mystery of the incarnation is not so much that our Lord Jesus Christ is true God or true man, but that He is at one and the same time both of these. This is, in the final analysis, a mystery as great as the mystery of the trinity. Scripture itself reminds us of this by calling the truth that God is come in the flesh the beginning of the "great mystery of godliness" (I Tim. 3:16).
