I cannot afford it. Those words pass so readily over our lips. Almost every day we are confronted with buying something, indulging in some luxury, enjoying some pleasure; and each time the question must be answered: Can we afford it? Children hear their parents say in almost wearisome monotony: We cannot afford it, forget it.
