Among the most interesting parts of the Psalms are the subtitles found under certain chapter headings throughout the book. We can learn a lot about a psalm from what we find in these brief statements. Sometimes they recount the historical setting behind the writing of a psalm. Psalm 3 tells us that it’s “a Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son.” Psalm 57 gives us the insight that it was written by David “when he fled from Saul in the cave.” Sometimes these subtitles let us know...
