Polemics: Fighting Words (3)
Barry Gritters addresses the proper practice of ecclesiastical polemics in Reformed churches, arguing that while defending truth against error is a necessary calling for office-bearers, it must be done in a manner befitting soldiers of Christ. Drawing on Calvin's example, he warns against both ecclesiastical pacifism and belligerent confrontationalism, emphasizing that fighting words must be wielded with care, wisdom, and godliness.

As necessary as it is to call the church to do polemics, it is as imperative to remind ourselves to do it in a godly manner.
