This convocation address by Barry Gritters examines the theological and historical foundations for ministerial training in the Protestant Reformed Church, contrasting the ecclesiastical seminary model of the Afscheiding tradition with the more independent seminary approach influenced by Abraham Kuyper's Doleantie. Gritters argues from Calvin and Reformed principles that training ministers belongs fundamentally to the church institute rather than to independent organizations, critiquing lingering Kuyperian influences in PRC documents.
