The great sin that the people of Israel has com­mitted is pardoned, and thus the nation will live and enter with the Lord into His rest. This the Lord now definitely declared. It is the plain implication of His proclamation of His name, made when He passed be­fore Moses. He is the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering and abundant in goodness and truth.
