Take up the cross but enjoy life!

For some time I have wrestled internally about how, as a Christian, I can synthesize the calling to take up my cross in following Christ and the desire to enjoy this short life here on earth. Many unbelievers see these as being direct opposites. I for one, before conversion, saw the Bible and following Christ as dull, boring, and unhappy!
