Jacob at Shechem
Esau having departed, Jacob journeyed to Succoth, a place lying in all likelihood east of the Jordan. The name Succoth is expressive of Jacob's engagements at the place so named. Here he built "him a house, and made booths for his cattle." At this place then Jacob, it appears, fixed himself down, so to say, for a continued residence of some years.
