The "missing link" (wink, wink) An interesting number of U.S. News & World Report, Aug. 26-Sept. 2, 2002, contains articles treating "The Art of the Hoax." It makes for some interesting reading. One hoax in particular I found interesting: the hoax of the "Piltdown Man." His skull was discovered in 1912. Until 1949 he was presented as the "missing link" in the chain of evolution.
