In April, 1608, Wtenbogaert asked for a Synod to settle the difficulties. The States of Holland agreed to an appeal of Arminius that he and Gomarus debate be­fore the Supreme Court in the Hague. Representatives of the South Holland Synod asked that instead of a con­ference under court supervision, a conference should be held under the supervision of a Provincial Synod be­cause it was a religious question which was at issue.
