Synods 2020/2021 and “in the way of repentance”(1)
This editorial provides theological instruction on the doctrine of repentance as adjudicated by the Protestant Reformed Church's 2020 and 2021 synods, originating from a protest against a minister's sermon on Proverbs 28:13. The author explains how synods function as judicial bodies responding to specific cases rather than as theological study groups, using the Synod of Dort as a historical precedent for this approach to doctrinal formulation.
The purpose of this editorial and those that follow is to provide theological instruction on the disputed issue of the doctrine of repentance as it was treated by Synods 2020 and 2021 of the PRC. The origin of the dispute was the protest of a minister's sermon on Proverbs 28:13.
