The Golden Gate in Jerusalem
This famous gate was built by master builders from Byzantium (Constantinople, nowadays called Istanbul), which in 330 became the capital of the Roman Empire under the Christian emperor Constantine the Great. They traveled to many countries and had great influence on the architecture of many buildings from the fourth until the fifteenth century. However, the Turks captured Jerusalem in 637 (Kalif Omar) and his successor (Abd El Malik) built a big mosque and closed the “golden gate” with bricks....
