The Juggernaut of Apostasy
This article examines the theological disputes that led to the 2003 separation of the Reformed Churches Restored (RCr) from the liberated Reformed churches in the Netherlands, with particular focus on disagreements over covenant doctrine and church unity efforts. The author traces how differing views on the internal/external distinction in the covenant have created ongoing tensions between various Reformed denominations, including the Canadian Reformed Churches and the Protestant Reformed Churches in America. The piece provides historical context on the post-WWII emigration of liberated church members to North America and their failed attempts to achieve ecclesiastical fellowship.
This year is the tenth anniversary of the formation in the Netherlands of the Reformed denomination De Gereformeerde Kerken Hersteld (the Reformed Churches restored [RCr]).
