Temperance
Temperance can be translated as “self-control.” Solomon likens a person without self-control to a city that has no walls and is broken down, vulnerable to attack. A person who lacks temperance is vulnerable to attacks from the devil. Such a person lacks the ability to say no to the pleasures of this world and the ability to say no to his or her own will.
