Jacob with his family has crossed Egypt's borders and is now in the near vicinity of Joseph's residence. Instead of allowing himself and his own to enter the private precincts of Joseph's estate unannounced, Jacob orders Judah to go before him and notify his illustrious son that his guests have arrived and are waiting to be directed to the land of Goshen.
