The “Oldehove” In Leeuwarden
This is the tower in the center of the capital of the Dutch province of Friesland, built as part of the St. Vitus Church in the twelfth century (1190). There was also the monastery Mariengaarde. In that time, Leeuwarden was a harbor city, but the connection with the sea closed itself by huge amounts of silt. The name of the city was Ljouwert in the Friesian language.
