There is much need for hope. The need for hope arises from the curse which God placed upon man and upon the earth because of man's willful fall into sin. The book of Ecclesiastes details the effects of that curse, summarizing it with the two familiar phrases: "vanity of vanities; all is vanity" and "there is nothing new under the sun" (Ecclesiastes 1:2, 5).
