In the splendid red robes of an archbishop in the Holy Roman Empire, Rabanus Maurus stood next to the king of Germany. The king was clothed in his royal cape as well, a scepter in his hand and a crown upon his head. Other bishops in all their finery stood in rows on either side of Rabanus and the king.
