Macedonia is one of the small countries which has been part of Yugoslavia, bordering on Albania, the Kara mountains, but in the South on the Gulf of Thessalonica. It has a long and dramatic history, part of which can be found in the New Testament, because after the conquest by Alexander the Great (356-323 before Christ) Macedonia became a province of the Romans and the Apostle Paul was called to go there (Acts 16:9) with Luke, Silas and Timothy.
