Immediately upon the fall our first parents were made to hearken to an announcement of the salutary degrees of God. "And the Lord God said, …. And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed, he shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel" (Gen. 3:15). It is at once discernible that this divine speech is a pre­diction of a state of affairs presupposing the existence of a holy race, for the serpent and the woman together with their respective seeds...
