“Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart.”  There is a definite connection between drunkenness and whoredom, both corporeally and spiritually.  See Prov. 23:20, 27-35.  Wine may lawfully be used as a medicine.  I Tim. 5:23.  But taken to excess (Eph. 5:18), wine acts upon the body as a poison.  Deut. 32:33; Prov. 23:31; Hos. 7:5.  The abuse of wine takes away the heart, i.e. it renders the abuser devoid of understanding.  Isa. 28:1, 7 are plain on this point.  The Bible has glaring...
