The New Testament word monegenes (only begotten) is truly a mysterious term. It seems to be especially so to some who just cannot see how it could apply to the divine person of the Son of God. Hence many modern and anti-theological versions of the Bible eliminate “begotten”, as LB eliminates it from 10 verses: born Jn. 1:14; 3:16, 18; Ac. 13:33; Heb. 1:5; 5:5; 11:17; I Jn. 4:9; 5:1.
