This article explores the theological connection between God's unconditional election and regeneration, and the purpose of gospel preaching in light of these doctrines. Laning addresses the apparent tension some Christians feel between God's sovereign choice to save only the elect and the mandate to preach the gospel to all people, introducing the ordo salutis framework with particular attention to how God's effectual calling operates through the preached Word to draw the regenerate to Christ.
