LESSON LX. Jesus Crucified (John 19:17-25) The Crucifixion ns such, vss. 17, 18. Immediately after the sentence has been pronounced Jesus is led away to the place of execution. Generally the condemned one had to carry his own cross, or at least a part of it. Jesus must carry all of it. John omits the incident of Simon and of the weeping daughters, to avoid repetition. The bearing of the cross naturally lends powerful effect to His word to us about taking up the cross to bear it after Him....
