The Limits of Attaining Wisdom for Sinful Man
This article examines Ecclesiastes 7:23-26 and Solomon's recognition that despite his God-given wisdom and accomplishments, he could not attain perfect understanding due to his creaturely and sinful limitations. Miersma explores the tension between Solomon's considerable earthly wisdom and achievement as king of Israel, and his ultimate discovery that human wisdom has definite boundaries when pursued apart from proper fear of God and recognition of human fallenness. The piece offers practical theological reflection on the limits of human reason and the necessity of humility in the pursuit of understanding.
