Salvation and Good Works
This article addresses a potential ambiguity in Rev. R. Kleyn's treatment of the relationship between salvation and good works by clarifying that while good works logically follow salvation in the ordo salutis, they are not separated from salvation but are rather the fruit of God's sovereign grace and regenerating work. Kalsbeek's response helpfully distinguishes between the logical order of salvation (salvation not based on works, works made possible only by grace, and conscious experience of salvation preceding awareness of good works) while maintaining that good works are integral to the salvation God works in believers.
In his article titled "Good Works" in the October 1, 2016 issue of the SB, Rev. R. Kleyn wrote in the section "The Place of Good Works:" Although the Bible teaches good works, there is always an order: first salvation, then good works.
